Girard-Perregaux pays tribute to José Froilán González and Ferrari
The 14th of July 1951, Ferrari celebrated his first official triumph when José Froilán González ended as the first car racer of the Silverstone circuit at the wheel of the Ferrari 375. Today, the story goes on as Ferrari is the most popular brand in the motorsport world and José Froilán González a legend and a milestone in the history of car racing.
To pay tribute to these performances, Girard-Perregaux launched a Limited and Numbered Edition "Tribute to Froilán González" of 60 pieces (for the 60th Anniversary of that race). The first chronograph, numbered 00/60, was offered to “Pepe” during a ceremony orchestrated by Fernando Stolov, from the Chronos jewelry and Laurence Verriez from Girard Perregaux, who especially came for the occasion. The sapphire case back of the chronograph with inverted push-pieces is delicately engraved with the shape of the Silverstone circuit in 1951 and a drawing of the Ferrari that “Pepe” was driving the day of his victory.
