Girard-Perregaux Presents MVP Award to Joakim Noah for the Steve Nash Foundation Showdown 6th Edition in New York City
New York City, NY (27th June 2013) – Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux was happy to support 6th Edition of the Steve Nash Foundation Showdown; the popular charity soccer match in New York City, held by two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash.
The 8-a-side soccer match was competitive and featured NBA and professional soccer players who joined forces to support the Steve Nash Foundation’s work to benefit underserved children. In addition to Steve Nash, the match included players such as Massimo Ambrosini (AC Milan), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Giuseppe Rossi (florentina), Joakim Noah and Marco Belinelli (Chicago Bulls), Oguchi Onyewu (Malaga CF), Emmerson Boyce (Wigan), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Mikel Alonso (Liga Veteran), Sammy Amoebi (Newcastle), Rod Fanni (Olympique de Marseille), and Simone Sandri (Showdown Co-Founder). Baron Davis (New York Knicks) was also seen supporting the game.
The soccer match was played at Sara D. Roosevelt Park on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with fans lining the field, bleachers, and fences of the park. Before the game began, Girard-Perregaux awarded Massimo Ambrosini in honor of his long and successful carreer. In addition, Joakim Noah was awarded as the game’s Most Valuable Player. Both players received a beautiful Chrono Hawk timepiece that perfectly encompassed the athletic nature of the day featuring a rugged steel case and sporty rubber strap.
After the match, Nash, fellow players, friends and fans gathered for Showdown After Hours, an invite-only cocktail party and live auction at The Penny Farthing, where 100% of proceeds went to benefit the Foundation’s direct services to children around the world.
This sponsorship highlights Girard-Perregaux’s continued commitment to the world of sports and charity alike. Past honors to Steve Nash from Girard-Perregaux include a 1966 Full Calendar for his charitable work through his namesake foundation.
