Girard-Perregaux Celebrates The Launch Of The Academy Museum Project At A Special Event In Los Angeles
Girard-Perregaux was proud to celebrate the launch of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures at the Academy Museum Inaugural Celebration on Thursday, April 11. Girard-Perregaux, a founding supporter and the exclusive timekeeper of the Academy Museum, was represented at the event with a large high tech reproduction of the recently launched ad campaign ‘Mechanics of Dreams’ that features an iconic image of Alfred Hitchcock from the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library.
The private event took place at the future home of the Museum – the legendary Wilshire May Company building in the heart of Los Angeles. The event was hosted by the Museum’s campaign chairs, Disney’s chairman and CEO Bob Iger, actors Annette Bening and Tom Hanks, and the Museum’s architects, Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali.
During the evening, Renzo Piano unveiled the Museum’s concept design and guests previewed some of the iconic artifacts that will be featured in the Museum (such as Dorothy’s red shoes from The Wizard of Oz and the piano featured in Casablanca) along with high tech multi-media presentation of the Museum interactive and immersive exhibitions.
At the end of the evening Michele Sofisti, CEO of Sowind (Girard-Perregaux and JEANRICHARD) presented a specially engraved Academy Museum of Motion Picture series of Girard-Perregaux timepieces (that include Cat’s Eye, Vintage 1945 and Girard-Perregaux 1966) to Museum leadership to celebrate the Academy Museum/Girard-Perregaux partnership.
“We are thrilled to be at this important milestone of the Academy Museum, said Sofisti. “This is a project that will transform the movie industry and bring it a step closer to the hearts of the public. At Girard-Perregaux we are honored to be part of it.”
“The Academy Museum will celebrate the movie industry by sharing its heritage and future with people of all ages from around the world” says Bill Kramer, the Academy's Managing Director of Development. “We are delighted to have Girard-Perregaux as a Founding Supporter and very active partner in this vital project.”
