Baselworld 2013: Girard-Perregaux novelties - cutting-edge technique and seduction
Respect of traditions and cutting-edge mechanic, it’s in those terms that the current events at BaselWorld 2013 of Girard-Perregaux define themselves. Three models under the microscope.
Girard-Perregaux 1966 integrated chronograph with column-wheel
Even though the functions of this model are rather sporty, the brand chooses to present the GP 03800 calibre, result of a five years’ study, in a 1966's collection 40 mm pink gold case, both sober and elegant. Water-resistant to 30 metres, this model distinguish itself by the subtlety of details: date aperture in relief at 6 hours, discreet but visible tachometer, as well as two symmetrical chronograph timers whereby the minute is indicated by instantaneous jumps.
Equipped with 312 components, the GP 03800 calibre represents a true advance for the brand, as it is destined to receive all types of complications on the dial side, making it a novelty but also cornerstone of the upcoming strategy.
Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon Bi-Axial Tantale & Saphir
Its modern design evokes the 1860’s Tourbillon pocket watches. The Tourbillon Bi-Axial unites past, present and future in the same timepiece, both precise and seductive. Its aspect of masculinity is reinforced by a 45mm tantalum case and by two black bridges cut into the sapphire with recognizable style, as well as by the imposing hands, which facilitates the reading of the time.
Under this imposing masculinity, an exceptional technical and decorative know-how comes to light. Indeed, visible from both sides of the watch, the two frames of the Tourbillon Bi-Axial include more than 110 components, only weigh 0,8 grams and guarantee an excellent precision thanks to the tumbling of the positions. Limited to 12 pieces, this timepiece is equipped with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement
To win the bet of constant force…
Thanks to the Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement model, the brand demonstrates that it has not only been successful in developing an important innovation for chronometric precision but it has also been able to give shape to its concept to integrate it in marketable models.
The result is a magnificent timepiece that alternates the colour, plays among black, grey and blue and whose components’ symmetry highlights the constant escapement device under the three bridges characteristic of the brand, but laid-out here in a novel manner. Beating to an alternation of 3Hz and equipped with a power reserve of approximately one week, this 48mm white gold model has another important asset. The device of constant escapement, being a module, it facilitates the after-sales service.
